Video: Raymond James Powers Innovation with Control-M (1:40)
Raymond James recently celebrated 150 consecutive quarters of profitability and growth.
The consistency of its success is due in no small part to the company’s ability to provide personalized financial advice at a large scale. Raymond James equips more than 8,000 financial advisors in North America and overseas with sophisticated financial data and analysis—so they can custom-tailor advice for clients across a broad portfolio of services, including wealth management, investment banking, asset management, and commercial banking.
But how does the company do this efficiently?
One important element is Control-M.
Raymond James has partnered with BMC and used Control-M for more than a decade to orchestrate critical workloads. For example, one service running on Control-M delivers hundreds of thousands of financial intelligence reports to advisors across the US before markets open each day.
“It's the engine that runs a good chunk of our business,” says Chris Haynes, Associate Director of IT Operations Services at Raymond James Financial. “Over 700 different applications, in all our lines of business, from HR to tax reporting, are leveraging Control-M. Our day-to-day is all executed through Control-M.”
When Raymond James first implemented Control-M more than ten years ago, the priority was to create a centralized, “single-pane-of-glass” view for understanding the status of all critical workloads, 24x7. Over time, Haynes and the Raymond James IT Ops team identified more and more ways to put the solution to work, helping to enable business growth, compliance, and continuous optimization.
As a financial services firm, Raymond James is audited year-round. It previously needed to allocate four or more employees, and several hours of their time, to each audit cycle.
Because the company has automated key audit processes through Control-M, a single employee can now complete the work in just a few hours.
Moving forward, Haynes and his team continue to take advantage of the ever-growing list of out-of-the-box Control-M integrations to support fast innovation without compromising stability.
“The integrations help with the breakneck speed and complexity with which new technology is coming at us,” says Haynes. “Out-of-the-box functionality means we don't have to design a script or something custom, which isn’t sustainable long term. It lets us be agile while staying standardized, which really helps maintain stability.” Currently, Haynes says, the team is focusing on Control-M integrations with Kubernetes, Airflow, and the Microsoft Azure cloud.
“A lot of what we can do is predicated on regulatory requirements,” Haynes continues. “We must be confident, thorough, and safe with everything new we introduce. One of the things I know I can count on from BMC is forward thinking. The entire team is listening to customers about challenges, disruptive technologies, and security concerns. BMC is ahead of the game for financial services.”
Raymond James Financial is a leading diversified financial services company providing private client group, capital market, asset management, banking, and other services to individuals, corporations, and municipalities. The company has approximately 8,700 financial advisors.
